QUITTING POSSIBLE BUT NOT COLD TURKEY

While many smokers believe that quitting "cold turkey" is the best way to give up smoking, new guidelines released by the National Health Committee show that Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is the most effective form of smoking cessation.

NRT decreases withdrawal symptoms and improves cessation outcomes for many people.

The new guidelines bring together evidence for effective and safe smoking cessation treatment and advise health professionals to listen to the smokers story, says Dr Diana North, medical director for the National Heart Foundation.
