FLU JAB URGED

More New Zealanders so far this year have opted to be vaccinated against influenza, but the Ministry of Health is still urging others to do the same as winter and the influenza virus set in.

Ministry spokesperson Dr Lance Jennings said there was still time to be immunised, even though it takes 10 to 14 days for the vaccine to give full protection.

However a new strain of flu has hit and this year's vaccine provides no protection from it.

The new strain of mild flu was discovered in the Waikato.
