Health service provision for older people must change significantly to meet the demands of New Zealand's ageing population, says the Ministry of Health.
The ministry has released the draft of the Health of Older People Strategy, as like many other countries, New Zealand has population that is getting older.
By 2010, 13% of the population will be aged 65 and over, and by 2050, that will have risen to 25%.
The strategy includes better co-ordination of health and support services, a greater emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention, and more emphasis on community-level health care.
