PRESSURE REMAINS ON RADIATION WAITING LISTS

Fewer people in July were given radiation therapy on time than in June, Ministry of Health figures reveal. And the pressure on cancer treatment waiting lists is expected to continue for several months. July figures show 58.3 per cent of patients needing radiation therapy started their treatment on time, within four weeks of the decision to treat. June figures show 59.9 per cent started treatment on time. Figures for July also show the number of patients waiting for treatment for less than four weeks in Hamilton and Palmerston North have dropped. Waiting times in other areas have increased slightly or remained steady.
