REVIEW OF HRT USE

The UK Medical Research Council (MRC) has announced it is setting up an independent international committee of advisers to review the results to date of American and British Studies of the risks and benefits of long-term use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

The MRC said there remained a need to better understand why the steering committee for the US Women's Health Initiative (WHI) trial had decided to close part of its study.

The MRC will continue its own study of long duration oestrogen use after menopause until the international committee reports.
