VERNON TEWS EDUCATIONAL TRUST FELLOWSHIP
University of Otago student James Patterson has completed six months of his GSK co-funded PHD research project at the GSK research centre in England. He is the third recipient of the Vernon Tews Educational Trust fellowship, which supports kiwi students complete their studies at the research facility.
"I am working on research into different forms and solids for oral drugs that can improve the amount of active agent entering a person's body. This affects the efficiency of the drug and the dosage required to achieve the desired effect.
"I was amazed at the scale of the GSK operation, and the ease of the access to resources and equipment," he says.
Other recipients of the fellowship are further forward in their research projects.
