MEDICATION ERROR BATTLE

A rest home nurse is fighting for compensation after being sacked for twice giving medication at the wrong times and failing to correctly report the incidents. Last week, her employer took their case to the Court of Appeal to challenge an earlier Employment Tribunal decision to uphold the nurse's claim of unjustified dismissal.

She was awarded $6500 awarded for lost wages, humiliation, stress and loss of dignity. Employer and employee are at odds over allegations, that the recorded time on an incident report had been changed.

The incorrect timing of the medication and mis-reporting by the nurse is not under dispute. Appeal Judge Coral Shaw has reserved her decision.
