CONTINUED FUNDING FOR GREEN PRESCRIPTIONS

Taking a walk instead of a pill might continue to be the prescription some people get from their doctor, following the decision by Pharmac to continue funding for the Green Prescriptions programme.

The initiative, also funded by Sport and Recreation NZ, aims to encourage people to improve their health by being more active.

Under the programme, Regional Sports Trusts contact patients who have been given Green Prescriptions and establish an activity programme for them.

Surveys show that more than half of people remains more active six to eight months after receiving their Green Prescription.
