DENGUE FEVER IN SAMOA

Auckland DHB is warning travellers to Pacific Island countries about the risks of catching dengue fever. There have been 17 cases diagnosed in June and July, all had recently returned from Samoa. Four were admitted to hospital. Anyone going to the Pacific Islands should try to avoid mosquito bites by wearing light colour clothing that covers arms and legs and an insect repellent with D.E.E.T. Sleeping under mosquito nets at night or in air-conditioned rooms is also recommended.
