NEW DIABETES PRESIDENT

Russell Finnerty is the new president of Diabetes New Zealand. He says his vision for the future is reducing the social and financial cost of Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 is largely a lifestyle condition, and is responsible for the epidemic growth in diabetes in New Zealand.

He says the government isn't doing enough, and hasn't recognised the positive gains to be made from a preventive approach.

"The government needs to commit to a vision and strategy for turning the diabetes epidemic around."

Russell Finnerty has Type 1 diabetes himself, and has been associated with the organisation since 1976.
