DIABETICS RISK OF HEART DISEASE

The UK Heart Protection Study has demonstrated the benefits of cholesterol lowering drug Lipex, for at-risk groups such as diabetics.

With nearly 6000 diabetes patients enrolled in the study, it is the first designed to investigate the benefits of cholesterol-lowering therapy in people with Type I and Type II diabetes, with or without a prior history of heart disease or high cholesterol.

Treatment with Lipex during a five-year period could prevent heart attacks, strokes or major vascular events by about a third in patients aged 40 and older with diabetes.
